Meet Killian and Kelsey!

Killian - 12

Instruments played:  piano, guitar, ukulele
Favorite band/artist: Foo Fighters, Favorite song: “The Sky is a Neighborhood”

What Killian likes most about music lessons is that he is able to learn new songs on the different instruments that he plays with his instructor Katie.  He practices playing music after school, and wants to keep music in his life as a hobby into adulthood. When asked how music can change the world, Killian says that “music provides entertainment to all people throughout the world”.  When he is not making music, Killian enjoys his sports of soccer, running, baseball, and skiing.

Kelsey - 10

Instruments played: piano, ukulele, voice
Favorite band: She can’t decide because there are so many she likes! ..Anything to which she can dance.

Kelsey enjoys her music lessons because they are fun and creative, where she “loves turning an instrument into expression” (well said!).  She likes to practice in the mornings, but also again in the evenings when the house is quiet and peaceful.  Kelsey would like to be a pianist when she grows up and hopes to be able to play music for her whole life.  She believes that music can change the world because, in her words, “Music lets people enjoy life and express themselves.  When we travel outside the country as a family, I see how every culture has music in their lives.  No matter where you go, you can connect with people through music and dancing.  It’s like its own language.”  Outside of music, Kelsey enjoys tap dance classes, horseback riding, soccer, skiing, and track & field.

According to their instructor Katie, Kelsey and Killian have a passion for exploring different musical styles and instruments, studying the language behind the music so that they can apply it to any instrument they pick up.  Starting with piano, they have since learned ukulele, charango, and guitalele. This spring Kelsey has moved her focus to the piano and adding voice lessons, while Killian has focused on the string instruments and is adding guitar.   Along with their regular practice, these two have truly embraced music lessons as a family activity, teaching their parents and their little sister bits and pieces of what they are learning in lessons.  They are currently working on their first major collaboration, preparing a duet for performance as a sibling duo.  They are always such a joy to work with and Katie is grateful to teach and have them in our Music Flow family!

KONRAD, R.R.,
EMPATHY, ARTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES, 2000

In November of 2015 I had decided to really start learning how to play the Guitar after years of just knowing a few Chords and Rhythm and playing the same old stuff over and over, and through a business relationship I found out about Music Flow Teaching and little did I know at that time what a huge impact this was going to have on my life. My goal in the beginning was to learn how to Solo and not just copy or mimic what other Guitar players had done but be able to create my own solos, I was shocked at how quickly my Instructor was able to get the basic scales needed to start this process going, and how fast I was able to absorb these techniques and forms to get started on my journey to my Goal. Now that I have been doing this for over a year and a half it seems like every lesson just provides a quicker learning experience as I get more and more of the capabilities in my hand. I really like how my Instructor is able to adapt quickly and change from lesson to lesson to work on a technique or form instead of just sticking to some plan that someone else has developed. What I have learned since starting with Music Flow has affected my life in more ways than just music alone, it has reignited a passion that had been gone for a long time as I look so forward to getting home and playing everyday, it has also helped every other part of my life as well. I now seem to focus on task better and and pay more attention to detail than before I started on this journey. From the deepest part of my Heart I would like to just say Thank You Music Flow Teaching and I cant wait to see what the next year holds because if it is anything like the last year my advancement will be exponential.
